SEBRAS - Stripes over Sprints: Agility plus Systems Engineering

"Agility" is increasingly falling into disrepute. Agile scaling frameworks are complex to implement and often lead to rigid processes, new silos, and a loss of the big picture. The GfSE working group "Agility in SE" introduces SEBRAS (Systems Engineering for Business Reactivity and Agility with Stripes), a conceptual model to successfully combine systems engineering and agility.

With "Stripes over Sprints," memorable patterns are presented to implement the development of complex systems in a simpler, agile manner. The main feature is the Stripes pattern, time-limited development segments (0.5 to 6 weeks) that, unlike agile sprints, are not tied to a rigid cadence. Crucially, the T-O-B perspectives (Technology-Organization-Business) ensure a holistic consideration of technical, organizational, and business aspects. Before each Stripe, a Stripe Planning session takes place, where teams and priorities for all T-O-B perspectives are agreed upon.

Development occurs in the Pattern-Stripes, which encompass a complete V-Model cycle. The Problem Definition Phase and Solution Finding Phase are distinguished and efficiently supported by agile MBSE.
