Standardization is Key to Success in Systems Engineering

The stories experienced in Systems Engineering with my customers over more than 25 years are showing that standardizing, in particular, the types of specifications, types of objects, the traceability, the attributes and types, the traceability visualization and the naming conventions are key success factors for each and every project.

This presentation will not stop at high-lighting the many benefits these standardizations provide to companies. Participants will get a concrete proposal for recommended types of specifications with their types of objects and their traceability. In addition, a proposal for a standardized set of attributes and types (covering versions / variants and touching on work-flows / state transitions) will be elaborated - serving as a tangible take-away for those looking to get a ready-made jump start (or improvements of their status quo).

All proposals are pretty tool independent with some tools making it easier than others to standardize - and standardization actually turning out to be even more important in those making it more tedious.

While the main focus of this presentation are Requirements Engineering, Verification & Validation / Testing, Risk Management and Safety Assurance, it applies to and impacts all other areas of systems engineering as well.
